Dual-Mode 2940 nm Laser Treatment
Advanced skin resurfacing, scar reduction and
under-eye rejuvenation
For many people, acne scars, fine lines, and tired under-eye skin make daily reflection on past skin issues or the effects of ageing unavoidable. The Dual-Mode 2940 nm laser actively renews and rejuvenates the skin, targeting scars, resurfacing uneven texture, and improving delicate areas such as the under-eyes. Furthermore, by combining ablative and non-ablative modes in one device, clinicians can customise the intensity and depth of each treatment to achieve the best results while minimising downtime.
At Queensland Skin and Laser, our medical team leads every treatment and carefully plans each procedure to address your skin’s unique needs. We use advanced technology, follow strict safety protocols, and provide ongoing guidance to help you achieve smoother, healthier, and more confident skin.
Collagen-stimulating laser for smoother, firmer skin
How Dual Mode 2940nm LaseR WOrks
The 2940nm wavelength is generated by an Erbium YAG laser. Essentially, what makes this device unique is its ability to operate in two different modes: ablative and non-ablative.
In ablative mode, the laser precisely removes tiny columns of the outer skin. This process helps resurface the skin, soften the edges of scars, and improve texture. Because the treatment is targeted, the surrounding skin remains intact, which helps speed up the healing process.
In non-ablative mode, the energy passes deeper into the dermis. This creates controlled heating in the deeper tissues, stimulating the natural production of collagen and elastin. The result is firmer, smoother skin.
When used together, your clinician can customise the treatment to target your specific skin concerns. For delicate areas under the eyes, clinicians deliver conservative ablative passes combined with deeper non-ablative energy, while thicker scar tissue receives stronger resurfacing for optimal results. For this reason, the Dual-Mode 2940nm laser is considered a versatile and powerful tool.
What can Dual Mode 2940nm Laser Help With?
The Dual-Mode 2940 nm laser is commonly used for:
- Scar reduction and smoothing: By encouraging new collagen growth and resurfacing uneven skin, the laser helps scars blend more naturally into surrounding skin.
- Under-eye rejuvenation: Tighten skin, smooth fine lines, and reduce shadowing or puffiness.
- Skin resurfacing and texture improvement: Fine lines, enlarged pores, and rough or sun-damaged skin can be improved as the laser renews the surface and stimulates deeper collagen repair.
- Signs of ageing and sun damage: Uneven tone, mild pigmentation, and early wrinkles can often be improved with resurfacing.

Am I a Good Candidate for
Dual Mode 2940nm Laser?
Science-Backed Laser Treatment for Scars and Fine Lines
Not everyone is suitable for laser resurfacing, which is why a consultation is essential. However, you may be a good candidate if you want to:
- Improve the appearance of scars, fine lines, wrinkles, or under-eye bags
- Refine texture, reduce enlarged pores, and repair sun-damaged skin
- Achieve visible results with a treatment tailored to your needs
- Maintain healthy skin and prepare it for optimal laser results
Ultimately, treatment may not be suitable for individuals with very dark skin types (due to higher risk of pigment changes), those with certain medical conditions, or people who have recently used medications like isotretinoin. Hence, your clinician will review your medical history and skin type carefully before recommending this procedure.

Consultation
Before treatment, you will meet with a qualified medical professional who assesses your skin concerns, reviews your medical history, and discusses realistic outcomes. For delicate areas like under the eyes, the clinician may perform a test patch to ensure safety and effectiveness.
During Treatment
First, your clinician applies a topical anaesthetic to maximise comfort. Next, during the procedure, you may feel warmth or a light snapping sensation as the laser works to resurface your skin and stimulate collagen. Sessions typically take 20-45 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated.
Aftercare and Recovery
After treatment, your skin may appear red, mildly swollen, and begin flaking as it naturally heals. Deeper resurfacing may require a few days of downtime while your skin renews itself. Your clinician provides tailored aftercare instructions, including using gentle skincare products, keeping your skin well-hydrated, and applying daily sun protection. Following these steps helps you achieve the best results safely.
Results
You may notice early improvements in smoothness and brightness within the first few weeks. Moreover, over the next 3-6 months, new collagen develops, enhancing firmness and texture. Most patients achieve the best results after 2-4 treatments, spaced several weeks apart, as your skin continues to remodel and renew.
Possible Risks or Side Effects
As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and considerations to understand before undergoing treatment. However, the Dual-Mode 2940 nm laser is generally well-tolerated when performed by trained professionals. Possible side effects may include:
- Redness and swelling – usually temporary and subsides within days.
- Crusting or flaking – may occur in areas treated with stronger ablative passes.
- Pigment changes – hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation is rare but possible, particularly for darker skin types.
- Infection – rare if aftercare instructions are followed carefully.
- Scarring – extremely uncommon when treatment is performed by qualified clinicians.
Importantly, a personalised consultation ensures your treatment plan minimises risk and suits your skin type and medical history. During the consultation, your clinician provides clear guidance on pre-treatment preparation, post-treatment care, and expected recovery time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Dual Mode 2940nm Laser
What is a Dual-Mode 2940nm laser treatment?
A Dual-Mode 2940 nm laser uses Er:YAG technology to improve skin texture, reduce scars, and rejuvenate delicate areas like the under eyes. It combines ablative and non-ablative modes to target both surface and deeper layers of skin, stimulating collagen and promoting smoother, healthier-looking skin.
How does Dual-Mode 2940nm laser reduce scars?
This laser remodels scar tissue by resurfacing the skin and stimulating collagen production. Ablative passes remove damaged surface layers, while non-ablative energy promotes deep tissue repair. Over time, this helps acne scars, surgical scars, and other textural irregularities become softer and less visible. Learn more about how we treat scars with laser during a personalised consultation.
Can Dual-Mode 2940nm laser improve under-eye bags and fine lines?
Yes. The under-eye area is delicate and prone to fine lines and shadowing. Using conservative ablative settings with non-ablative energy, the laser gently tightens the skin, smooths texture, and improves the appearance of mild under-eye puffiness. Want to refresh your under-eye area? Schedule a consultation to discuss your options.
Are results from Dual Mode 2940nm laser permanent?
While the improvements from laser resurfacing are long-lasting, ongoing sun protection and skin maintenance are essential. Collagen-stimulating effects continue for several months after treatment, helping maintain smoother, firmer skin over time. Our team can provide guidance on maintenance and long-term results during a consultation.
Is Dual-Mode 2940nm laser safe for my skin type?
The treatment is safe for most skin types when performed by a trained medical professional. People with darker skin tones or certain medical conditions may require a patch test or modified settings to reduce the risk of pigment changes. A consultation is always required to confirm suitability.
Does Dual Mode 2940nm laser treatment hurt?
Yes, Q-Switch laser is commonly used for melasma management, sunspot removal, and pigmentation treatment in Brisbane. Your clinician will recommend a safe, personalised approach tailored to your skin type and tone.
